Mike Bloomberg is our current mayor of New York City and has been since the year 2001. In the year 2001 Mike Bloomberg became a republican after being a Democrat his whole life. In the year 2005 he ran for re-election and won. He has now currently left the Republican party and is now the 2009 nominee for the independent party. In the year 2008 Mayor Mike Bloomberg campaigned for an amendment that would allow him along with other elected officials to run for a third term in office. On October twenty-third of that year the New York City Council voted in favor of Mike Bloomberg allowing him to run a consecutive third year term. For the 2009 race for mayor Mike Bloomberg is the nominee for both the Republican and Independent vote. In the 2009 election Mike Bloomberg is running against city comptroller Bill Thompson. Mike Bloomberg is from a Jewish family and is from both Russian and Polish descent. Mike Bloomberg was born and raised in Massachusetts. Mike Bloomberg received in bachelor’s degree from John Hopkins University, his MBA from Harvard Business School, and his doctorate from Fordham University. In March 2009 Mike Bloomberg was valued at a net worth of 16 billion dollars. Mike Bloomberg refuses to take a city salary but instead receives one dollar a week. Bloomberg supports many social issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, and embryonic stem cell research.
